On the Border of Freedom
Length: 60 minutes
According to the diarist Jacob Engelbrecht, there were 532 slaves living in the city of Frederick in 1830. This does not include the many more slaves residing elsewhere in Frederick County. How did these slaves live? What kind of work did they do? How did they eventually attain freedom? This program will explore the lives of the in-slaved in Frederick County. This program may also be paired with an introduction to researching slave history.

Local Voices, National Stories: A Frederick County History
Length: 30 minutes
Explore Frederick County’s past from early settlement through the cold war. Learn how the local population made a living, faced their struggles and relaxed with their favorite past-times. This presentation is a perfect way to bring the museum’s Local Voices, National Stories exhibit to your group or as a pre-museum visit discussion.

WWII POW Camp
Length: 30 minutes
Did you know that Frederick was the site for a German POW camp? Discover what prisoner life like in the camp and how the Frederick community reacted to the camp.

Are We There Yet?: Travel & Leisure in Frederick County
Length: 30 minutes
Frederick County residents have found time for fun and enrichment in a variety of ways. From parades, sports to the fair, Frederick County residents have come together to celebrate their community. Featuring stories of General Lafayette’s visit, the Frederick Hustlers and Braddock Heights.

Soldier Stories
Length: 30 minutes
Hear the stories of Frederick’s soldiers from the 18th –20th century. Featuring excerpts from the diary of Stephen Brown during the War of 1812 and the v-mail of Richard Lebherz during WWII.

“The Best Show Town for Its Size…”: Theaters in Frederick and Frederick County
Length: 60 minutes
Discover Frederick’s entertainment history with a look into the local theaters and Opera Houses; from the Tivoli theater to the Empire and beyond. The presentation will feature a clip from the 1928 classic Lilac Time.

Historic Document and Photograph Care
Length: 60 minutes
A Heritage Frederick professional will teach proper methods of caring and handling of your heirloom photos, photo albums, books, and documents. The presentation will provide tips that people can use in their homes to help preserve and protect their heirlooms for future generations.

The Red Cross in Frederick County
Length: 30 minutes
Learn what made Frederick County’s chapter of the Red Cross unique and how the members made a difference in the lives of Frederick County residents during difficult times (1860’s-1940’s).

Please submit tour requests no later than two weeks prior to your program date. Upon notification of your purchase, we will contact you regarding the availability of your preferred dates and time.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations should be made in at least 72 hours before the tour. We will make every attempt to reschedule the tour. Deposits are not refundable if the tour is canceled within less than 72 hours. If we must cancel a program due to extreme circumstances such as weather, we will contact you as soon as possible. Although rescheduling is not always possible, we will make every effort to do so. In the event that Heritage Frederick cancels a tour you will receive a full refund.
