We have a variety of opportunities for people 18 years of age and up who desire to make a difference in their community by inspiring a love of history.
Volunteers need only to be enthusiastic to learn the history and heritage of Frederick County and willing to share their knowledge with the public. Heritage Frederick provides training for all volunteer positions.
Visitor Services Volunteers
Heritage Frederick relies on museum volunteers to represent our organization to the public and engage visitors in our exhibits and programs. Visitor Services volunteers help at the front desk, collecting admissions and visitor statistics, guiding visitors to our exhibits, and assisting with museum shop sales.

More Volunteer Opportunities
Walking Tour Guides
Heritage Frederick offers a range of walking tours through Downtown Frederick every Saturday from April through November. Guides are provided with detailed tour scripts and have the opportunity to shadow tours before leading one on your own. We currently offer three tours: Foundations of Frederick History, Frederick in the Civil War, and Art and Architecture.
Research Center Volunteers
Volunteers in Heritage Frederick’s Research Center assist the Archivist with conducting genealogical and property research for online customers. Research Center Volunteers also assist with projects in Heritage Frederick’s archives, cataloging our library collection, and conducting research for exhibits and programs at the Musuem of Frederick County History.
Heritage Garden Volunteers
The Heritage Garden is a beautiful, quiet space behind the Museum of Frederick County History which hosts events, small weddings, and children’s programs for Heritage Frederick. Heritage Garden volunteers assist with light work tasks including weeding, pruning, sweeping walk ways, raking leaves, watering, and basic flower care.
