Description
The stone arched bridge located a few miles east of Frederick, MD enabled the nation’s first east-west highway (the National Road) to cross the unpredictable Monocacy River. The fighting at Jug Bridge was ancillary to the Battle of Monocacy, but it still played a vital role in the overall defensive strategy of Union General Lew Wallace.
