Walking Tours

Walk in the footsteps of Frederick’s past residents and discover their story. Heritage Frederick offers six walking tours with expert guides to lead visitors on their exploration of downtown Frederick.

 

2018 Walking Tour Season Tickets: $10.00/Adult, $8.00/Senior (60+), $7.00/Child (6-12 years)

Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved in advance. Walking Tours are offered April through October. Space is limited.

*Groups of 8 or more please visit the group tour page for a special rate.

Weather Policy

  • Walking tours will run rain or shine.
  • Please come prepared with a jacket for each participant on cooler days and water bottles for each participant on warmer days.

 *Tours will only be cancelled during extreme weather conditions such as excessive heat warnings or severe thunderstorms.

Tour Information

  • All tours walk approx. 1 mile.
  • Tours consist of walking and standing for 90 minutes. When possible, guides will tell a story near places where visitors can sit.
  • Please note that some city sidewalks are uneven.

Historic Frederick Walking Tour

Length: 90 Minutes  | 3rd-5th Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. & 1st – 3rd Sundays at 1:30 p.m.

Civil War Walking Tour

Length: 90 Minutes | 1st Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.

Explore what it was like to live in Frederick during the Civil War. Stories include the last Confederate invasion of the North, the ransom of Frederick, and the Battle of Monocacy. *Tour starts at the Museum of Frederick County History, 24 East Church Street, Frederick, MD

Learn about some of the county’s outstanding sites, people, and events through a tour of the local African American community’s historical cultural and civic center. *Tours start at the Roger Brooke Taney House, 121 South Bentz Street, Frederick, MD

Drunk & Disorderly: Frederick in the Civil War Walking Tour

Length: 90 minutes | May 12, June 9, July 14, & Aug. 11 at 7:00 p.m.

Explore the chaos that encompassed Frederick during the Civil War. Drunk and Disorderly Frederick shares the stories of drink, bloodshed, and mysterious happenings that occurred in town. *Tour starts at the Museum of Frederick County History, 24 East Church Street, Frederick, MD

Murder & Mayhem Walking Tour

Length: 90 minutes | October, Saturdays at 7:00 p.m.

Explore the “other side” of Frederick’s history, including some of the most scandalous, nefarious, and unbelievable moments in the city’s storied past. Stories include bootlegging, bank robberies and the case of Granville Smeltzer & Mary Nussbaum.  *Tour starts at the Museum of Frederick County History, 24 East Church Street, Frederick, MD
