The past will come alive as students explore the rich heritage of downtown Frederick. Guides introduce important moments in American history through the eyes of our local residents, including Frederick’s participation in a rebellion against England’s Stamp Act in 1765, Frederick’s welcoming of General Lafayette in 1824, and the use of Frederick’s buildings as hospitals during the Civil War.

Delve into what Frederick was like 150 years ago, during the Confederacy’s third and final invasion into the North, when Jubal Early ransomed Frederick during the Battle of Monocacy.

From the 19th century to the 20th century Frederick’s South Bentz Street and All Saints Street neighborhood was the cultural and civic center for Frederick County’s African American community. Explore some of the city’s outstanding sites, people, and events through a guided tour.
