CONTRACT PROJECT ARCHIVIST
November 27, 2017
Established in 1892, Heritage Frederick, a museum and library accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is seeking a Contract Project Archivist to organize, process and make accessible the Margaret Myers Collection, the largest genealogical collection related to Frederick County, Maryland. The collection spans approximately 350 cubic feet of ledger books, scrapbooks, family records, books, journals, magazines and newspaper clippings. The Contractor will oversee and train 1-2 assistants. Using established procedures in a manual outlining methodology, data collection, progress monitoring and index terms, the archival team will follow a processing plan to complete at least 8-9 boxes per week, follow a spreadsheet for entering folder headings dates and index terms, and create a list of authority headings for general materials and subjects using LoC Subject Authority and AAT for material types. The Contractor will follow organizational policy for the disposition of duplicates; record processing issues for benchmarking and reporting; and prepare a procedures manual to outline methodology. In the final stage, the Contractor will identify preservation/conservation needs, recommend treatment or management, and possibly determine what should be digitized.
Schedule is flexible, but the goal is to complete the project in 12 months. The individual should be available onsite, via text, email and phone.
